Hilton Head, SC – For the ninth year in a row, an estimated 500 inns and B&Bs will honor active and retired veterans over Veteran’s Day with free stays in the U.S and Canada.   In the largest known effort within the lodging industry to honor active military and veterans, several hundred innkeepers in the United States and Canada will open their doors with complimentary stays to say “thank you” to those who are presently serving or served in the past to protect our nations through the B&Bs for Vets program.  Most complimentary rooms will be offered on either November 10, 2016, although this will vary from inn to inn. Participating inns are listed at

Many inns and B&Bs dedicate the whole property to free rooms for the B&Bs for Vets program. Many more innkeepers will make special offers for vets to extend their stay for extra days or throughout the month. “We’re quite sure that more than $2.5 million in free rooms have been offered to deserving vets over the tenure of this program,” said Dallas Renner, Board member of the Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals, organizers of the event.

The B&Bs for Vets program started in 2008 after Kathleen Panek, co-owner of the Gillum House B&B and a handful of other innkeepers in West Virginia opened their doors to veterans in honor of Veteran’s Day. In 2010, the program went international with inns and B&Bs in the US, Canada, Mexico, Cosa Rica, France and Namibia, Africa participating. This year the Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals will coordinate and promote the B&Bs for Vets program in conjunction with many state B&B associations.

Innkeepers throughout the country will list their B&Bs for Vets offers at Available rooms fill up quickly and new inns and B&Bs are added to the list daily. Active military and veterans interested in reserving a room are asked to contact the inn/B&B directly where they wish to stay. Proof of military service will be required, and all policies of the inn will be enforced for free stays.  To see a complete list of participating inns and B&Bs in the U.S. and Canada, visit  in the U.S. or for Canadian offerings visit
